Wire Welding in additive 3D metal printing manufacturing

3D printing manufacturing is the talk of the town in the maritime industry these days. No doubt, it will have a great impact on an industry that spends billions of dollars every year on spare parts. But what is it all about ? In the article “Wire Welding in additive 3D metal printing manufacturing” we seek to inform about the process in general and more specifically, about  the role of the wire welding process for producing metal parts.

    Cold Welding Polymers

Polymeric materials are used to solve many diverse repair and mechanical engineering problems onboard. They are particularly useful when hot work like welding and brazing cannot be performed. The applications can vary from structural bonding to rebuilding corroded/eroded metal prior to application of protective coating through to emergency and permanent repair of holes and cracks.  In this paper you will find information regarding international standards, approvals by classification societies, product comparison lists and a number of shipboard applications.

Hard facing by welding in marine environment

Wear and tear on ships equipment makes maintenance in the form of Hard Facing welding necessary. To keep operational cost down it is important to get it right first time using the right welding methods and consumables. Therefore this new article: Hard facing by welding in marine environment. The article is to be found at the “TE Andersen consulting” web site in the “Welding Library” under “Practical Welding & Cutting”.

Also taking the opportunity to wish you all a great summer.

    Plasma Cutting & Gouging

Plasma cutting & gouging can be performed on all current carrying materials simply by utilizing the compressed air on-board the vessel. Flame cutting processes like Oxy- Acetylene and Oxy- Propane cutting and gouging can be performed on steel only. In this new article to be found at the “TE Andersen consulting” web site in the “Welding Library” under “Electric Arc Welding & Cutting” we specifically look towards what type of plasma machine to choose and the hidden cost in consumables and consumables life time.

    Wire Welding

During this times of pandemic with its

strict regime of lock down and quarantine please find some interesting reading
    to pass the time:

Wire Welding is a common name for a group of welding processes that normally is used

    in connection with production welding.

In this new article to be found at the “TE Andersen consulting” web
site in the “Welding Library” under “Electric Arc Welding & Cutting” we look at the different
type of Wire Welding Processes and to what extent it can be justified implemented onboard a vessel.

    TIG Welding

Most vessels will have an electric arc welding machine onboard that can perform

Manual Metal Arc Welding (MMAW), also referred to as stick electrode welding.
It is quite common that these machines will also be fitted with a mode nob that
can switch the machine over to perform Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding.

In this new article on the TE Andersen web site under Marine Welding Library we
provide the basics for TIG welding and its consumables including advantages and
disadvantages, where this process can be used, and how to properly set up a
welding power source for TIG welding.

    Welding Machines for Shipboard use

It is crucial that electric arc welding machines and equipment are

handled in a safe and secure way - safety in operation must always be a
priority when welding is performed onboard. In this paper, Welding Machines for
    Shipboard use, we
inform briefly about the electric system onboard ships
and how welding machines work. It examines the safety checks and precautions
that crew should adhere to before and during electric arc welding. The paper is posted
on TE Andersen consulting web site under Welding Library > Electric Arc
